First Week at CrossFit Fort Collins: What to Expect at OTAC

Starting your first week at CrossFit in Fort Collins can feel a little intimidating. Maybe you’ve seen videos of intense workouts or heard the lingo like WOD and AMRAP and thought, “I’m not ready for that.”

The truth is, you don’t have to be. At OTAC, we make sure your first week feels welcoming, clear, and beginner-friendly.

Day One Nerves Are Normal, and You’re Not Alone

When you walk into your first CrossFit class at OTAC, your coach will know you’re new and will take time to walk you through what to expect. They’ll introduce you to the group, go over the workout board, and help you get set up with equipment that fits your level.

You’ll still be part of the group, but you’ll receive more attention and extra coaching throughout class. That includes additional instruction before the workout begins and one-on-one guidance while you’re moving.

You’re Not Expected to Know the Movements

No one expects you to walk in knowing how to lift a barbell or do a wall walk.

Our coaches break down the movements, provide demonstrations, and give you time to practice. We scale everything to fit your ability and comfort level. That includes box jumps, Olympic lifts, and any other part of the workout that needs adjusting.

Here’s a quick video that shows what beginner coaching looks like in a real class:

The Class Will Still Feel Like a Workout

You’ll be learning, but you’ll also be moving. Even in your very first class, you’ll work up a sweat and leave feeling proud of what you accomplished.

What makes it different is that:

  • Your coach will help you focus on form
  • You won’t be pushed past what feels safe
  • You’ll finish feeling successful, not overwhelmed

You’ll Meet Real People, Not Fitness Robots

We know CrossFit often looks intense on social media. At OTAC, our members are just regular people. You’ll meet teachers, parents, retirees, and people who are getting back into fitness for the first time in years.

No one is judging your pace, and no one expects you to keep up with anyone else. The truth is, most people here remember exactly what it felt like to be brand new. You’ll probably be surprised by how supportive the energy feels in the room.

After Class, the Support Keeps Going

Once class ends, our support doesn’t stop. Coaches often check in after your first session to see how you’re doing and answer any questions.

We’ll help you:

  • Understand any soreness and how to recover
  • Stay consistent by returning within a day or two
  • Start with 2 to 3 workouts per week that feel manageable

The first week is all about building momentum. And yes, it really does get easier with each visit.

Tips to Make the Most of Your First Week at CrossFit in Fort Collins

  • Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early
  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring water
  • Let your coach know if anything feels off
  • Ask questions, even if you think they sound obvious
  • Celebrate each time you show up! That’s the hardest part

We’ll Help You Feel Confident From Day One

You don’t need to be in shape to start. You don’t need to know the lingo or lift a certain amount of weight. You just need to walk through the door. We’ll handle the rest.

Whether you’re here for your very first workout or getting back into a routine, OTAC is a great place to begin.
