Lately, we have been hearing a lot of good questions.
Is HYROX just another CrossFit workout with more running?
Are we doing the actual HYROX race every time in class?
Can I train for both CrossFit and HYROX without overdoing it?
As a certified HYROX Training Club and a proud CrossFit affiliate, OTAC is uniquely built to help you train for both. And more importantly, to help you do it with a purpose.
What Is HYROX
HYROX is a competitive fitness race that combines running with functional movements. It follows the same structure around the world.
You run one kilometer
Then complete one workout station
You repeat this eight times
The workout stations include things like the SkiErg, sled pushes, rowing, sandbag lunges, and wall balls. The structure never changes, which means your training and race results are easy to track and improve over time.
HYROX is designed to test endurance, mental focus, and movement efficiency. It is consistent by design.
How HYROX Training Works at OTAC
We are not running a full HYROX race every class. That would be exhausting and honestly, not very productive.
Instead, we follow a structured training program as an official HYROX Training Club. That means you will be doing the actual movements that show up in the race, but in workouts that are scaled and structured to build your capacity over time.
In class, you might focus on improving your sled push, building better running form, or dialing in wall ball mechanics. One day might focus on pacing intervals. Another might build muscular endurance for the farmer carry.
It is all part of a plan designed to help you show up stronger and better prepared, whether your goal is to compete or just feel more confident in your training.
How CrossFit Is Different
CrossFit and HYROX both use functional movements and conditioning, but the intention behind each one is very different.
CrossFit is constantly varied. You might lift heavy one day, do gymnastics the next, and push through a high intensity workout the day after that. It prepares you for a wide range of physical challenges and develops strength, power, coordination, and resilience.
HYROX is consistent. You know exactly what is coming. The goal is to get better at a specific race format and see progress over time in pace, transitions, and form.
How to Train for Both Without Burning Out
At OTAC, we offer both so you can train in a way that supports your goals, not just follow a trend.
We have members at OTAC who are doing both CrossFit and HYROX each week, and they are seeing great results. But that does not mean more is always better.
CrossFit builds your strength, skill, and overall fitness
HYROX builds your endurance, pacing, and race performance
Used together, they can make you a well rounded athlete who is strong, fast, and able to push through fatigue. But if you are doing both without a plan, it is easy to get tired, lose progress, or hit a wall.
That is why we recommend talking with our coaching team. We will help you find the right mix of classes, recovery, and goals so that your training stays intentional and sustainable.
Final Thoughts
You do not have to choose between CrossFit and HYROX. In fact, combining them can make you better at both.
Whether you want to compete, improve your conditioning, or simply challenge yourself in new ways, we have the programs and the people to support you.
Ask a coach how to get started. Sign up for a class. Or just come in and try something new.
You do not have to be perfect. You just have to show up.
